ASAE & The Center Annual Meeting San Diego
Just about a week til I head to San Diego for ASAE & The Center’s Annual Meeting. This will be only my fifth meeting (hard to believe!), and I’m already at the point where I won’t come CLOSE to doing everything that I want to do and see everyone I want to see. Such is life. Here are some things to be aware of for those of you going.
Silent Auction. I’ve got some consulting sessions for sale at the silent auction site. It’s a new way of doing it this year–consultants put out small two-hour consultations that you can "buy now" for a small price. I put two out there on generational issues and two out on conflict. Small scale free consulting. Check it out.
Bloggercon. For the past several years the association bloggers have organized their own little meeting, in whatever space we could find, to discuss the state of the association blogging world (or "clump"). This year we made it to the show! Ben Martin and I are facilitating the session which will be at Sunday at 1:30, called "Meet the Association Community Bloggers." Of course Ben has noted that many cool bloggers will be busy leading other sessions at that time, so we will probably offer a second bloggercon at one point. Figures. As soon as we become establishment, we get all uncomfortable!
YAP 80s/90s Dance Party. Also in the category of unofficial but totally cool is the dance party organized through YAP–Young Association Professionals. YAP is an awesome example of social networking being embraced rather than feared by the big, formal association (ASAE). A bunch of us organized it on our own, but ASAE still loves us. And we like to have fun, so we found a place in San Diego to dance (Monday night, 9:30). Check out YAP and RSVP for the party.
You don’t have to be "in" to know what the in crowd is doing. Thanks to social media and the web, it’s all out there. Follow ASAECenter08 on twitter. Follow everyone who follows ASAE on twitter. Read what Jeff, Lindy, Elizabeth, and Maddie are doing in San Diego. Remember the old days when you had to go to the networking reception and stir your drink uncomfortably until a vendor came up to talk to you? It’s much easier now.
See you all in sunny San Diego!
